WELCOME A GUINEA PIG
Before hosting a guinea pig it is necessary to gather the necessary material for its well-being and its food.
To welcome your guinea pig, you have to invest in a large cage with the necessary accessories. It is necessary to envisage its food but also a park for the exits, a kit of grooming and a first aid kit for first aid. A transport cage is essential.
Checklist of guinea pig material
THE TRANSPORT CAGE
The transport cage is essential for visits to the vet, outings in the garden or to go on vacation. A plastic cat model is perfect for guinea pigs.
THE CAGE WITH LARGE OPENING
The cage with large opening is essential for the daily life of your guinea pig. It must be large enough and easy to clean. Bar cages are perfect if they are at least a meter in length. It is not necessary to have several floors because the guinea pig does not climb.
LITTER
Some litters, like wood chips, are dangerous for your guinea pig. Hemp litter is a good solution because it is not dusty and does not stick to the legs. Bedding maize, linseed or cellulose are also suitable.
EXTRUDED
Extrusions are pellets that are only a supplement to the basic diet. The guinea pig is a strict herbivore. The extrudates must be of very good quality, adapted to this rodent and enriched with vitamin C.
HAY, THE RACK
Hay is the staple of the guinea pig. He must have it available at all times. To prevent it from getting dirty, it is recommended to put it in a rack.
VITAMIN C
The guinea pig must have daily doses of vitamin C. It can be in liquid form, in tablets or even better, in the form of fresh vegetables.
THE TROUGH
A feeding trough is adapted to the guinea pig. A bowl may be quickly defiled by droppings.
TWO FEEDERS
You need two feeders for your guinea pig: one for extrudates and another for fresh vegetables. Ceramic models must be heavy so as not to be knocked over. You can also choose stainless steel bowls to hang on the bars.
THE PARK FOR THE OUTINGS
Long daily trips are essential. You can use a park for outings in the garden or in a room. It is a secure space that must be large enough.
THE GROOMING KIT
The grooming kit includes a claw cutter, a flat brush and possibly a detangler and a pinned glove for long hairs. A mower may be necessary for the rear end.
THE PHARMACY CASE
The pharmacy kit can deal with first aid. Your veterinarian will advise you on its contents.
