FRANPRIX IS ​​EXPERIMENTING WITH A DELIVERY ROBOT DESIGNED TO HELP PEOPLE WITH REDUCED MOBILITY

This delivery robot is being tested in the store of the 13th arrondissement of Paris.

This little delivery robot has been designed to assist people with reduced mobility. Dubbed Twinswheel – twin wheels, for non-English speakers – it is currently being tested by the food retailer, Franprix, in the 13th arrondissement of Paris. Do not be surprised if you cross his path, but know that the French law prohibits a robot to move alone, so it is necessarily accompanied by a supervisor, or a customer. 

In its design, it is close to a Segway with two big wheels on the ribs, a space to store the races and a beacon to signal itself. Vincent Talon, the engineer who developed this device gave some details on how it works to our colleagues francetvinfo: ” He follows the person to a meter, carrying his shopping in his place .” Jean-Pierre Mochet, the general manager of the Franprix brands seems in any case convinced by the device: ” This robot is endowed with artificial intelligence: it is a machine which learns continuously, for example to move in city, to avoid passersby “.

On the performance side, he is able to carry 40 kilograms of merchandise at 6 km / h, the speed of a person who moves on a sidewalk. One can only hope that the AI ​​robot is effective, because the urban environment is fraught with pitfalls. It must be able to take into account many parameters and especially to adapt.
