Google announces a new offer integrated with VMware

The new Google Cloud VMware product offers a fully managed VMware Cloud Foundation stack in a dedicated environment on the Google Cloud infrastructure.

Google took a new step in its partnership with VMware on Thursday, announcing an integrated first-party service that allows customers to migrate or run VMware environments in the Google Cloud. The new Google Cloud VMware Engine offers a stack of VMware Cloud Foundation entirely managed on a dedicated Google infrastructure.

With this new service, customers can connect to a dedicated VMware environment directly via the Google Cloud Console to migrate or extend their on-site workloads to the Cloud.

"VMware and Google Cloud are working together to help fuel customer multicloud strategies, and the new Google Cloud VMware engine will enable our common customers to drive digital transformation and business resilience using the same VMware Cloud Foundation that works in their data centers today, "said Ajay Patel, SVP and GM of VMware's cloud provider software business unit, in a statement. "Google Cloud VMware Engine enables businesses to rapidly deploy their VMware environment in Google Cloud, providing scale, agility and access to native cloud services while leveraging familiarity and investment in tools and VMware training ”.

Google Cloud manages all infrastructure and associated updates

The service promises to minimize the operational load of a business through end-to-end support. Google Cloud manages the lifecycle of the VMware software stack and manages all associated infrastructure and updates. Dedicated networking and interconnection services such as Interconnect and VPN provide seamless connectivity and access to on-premises environments.

For more than a year now, Google Cloud has been implementing a customer-centric strategy to make Google Cloud “the easiest cloud provider to use,” says Thomas Kurian, CEO of Google Cloud . This largely means allowing customers to run critical workloads in GCP, including workloads from VMware and SAP. Last summer, Google Cloud announced that it would begin supporting VMware workloads on the Google Cloud . Then, in the fall, the company acquired CloudSimple, a maker of software that enables customers to migrate and run VMware workloads natively in public clouds .

For its part, VMware is "on track to become the provider of multicloud infrastructure of choice," said its CEO Pat Gelsinger earlier this year. A few weeks ago, VMware and Microsoft announced Azure VMware Solutions to provide a native and supported VMware experience on Microsoft Azure. VMware also has a long-standing relationship with Amazon Web Services. The company has also just announced the availability of Alibaba Cloud VMware Solution in mainland China and Hong Kong .
