SQUARES WITH APPLES
Ingredients
Crumble
1 1/4 cups (310 mL) quick-cooking oat flakes
1 cup (250 mL) unbleached all purpose flour
1 C. (5 mL) ground cinnamon
1/3 cup (80 ml) brown sugar
1/2 cup (125 mL) unsalted butter, softened
Apple filling
4 large Cortland apples, peeled, seeded and cut into pieces
1/4 cup (60 ml) water
1 C. 15 ml water
1 C. (15 mL) cornstarch
1/4 cup (60 mL) maple syrup
Preparation
- Preheat the oven to 190 ° C (375 ° F). Butter a 20 cm square baking dish and place a parchment paper on the bottom of the pan, leaving the sides on both ends.
- In a bowl, combine all crisp ingredients until coarse crumbs. Book.
- In a saucepan, put the apple pieces and 60 ml (1/4 cup) of water. Bring to a boil, lower heat, cover, and simmer for about 15 minutes, until apples are soft and mashed.
- Mix the cornstarch with the rest of the water. Add to apples, with maple syrup. Heat by mixing. The puree will thicken. Let cool.
- Spread half of the dough in the bottom of the mold, and equalize by pressing lightly. Pour applesauce, and smooth with a spatula. Finish by spreading the rest of the crumble, and pressing gently.
- Cook until the top is golden brown, about 45 minutes. Cool completely before cutting into squares.
