SQUARES WITH APPLES

Ingredients

Crumble

1 1/4 cups (310 mL) quick-cooking oat flakes
1 cup (250 mL) unbleached all purpose flour
1 C. (5 mL) ground cinnamon
1/3 cup (80 ml) brown sugar
1/2 cup (125 mL) unsalted butter, softened

Apple filling

4 large Cortland apples, peeled, seeded and cut into pieces
1/4 cup (60 ml) water
1 C. 15 ml water
1 C. (15 mL) cornstarch
1/4 cup (60 mL) maple syrup

Preparation

  1. Preheat the oven to 190 ° C (375 ° F). Butter a 20 cm square baking dish and place a parchment paper on the bottom of the pan, leaving the sides on both ends.
  2. In a bowl, combine all crisp ingredients until coarse crumbs. Book.
  3. In a saucepan, put the apple pieces and 60 ml (1/4 cup) of water. Bring to a boil, lower heat, cover, and simmer for about 15 minutes, until apples are soft and mashed.
  4. Mix the cornstarch with the rest of the water. Add to apples, with maple syrup. Heat by mixing. The puree will thicken. Let cool.
  5. Spread half of the dough in the bottom of the mold, and equalize by pressing lightly. Pour applesauce, and smooth with a spatula. Finish by spreading the rest of the crumble, and pressing gently.
  6. Cook until the top is golden brown, about 45 minutes. Cool completely before cutting into squares.
