Sony formalizes the launch of the PlayStation 5 for Christmas 2020

The Japanese company has unveiled the name and launch period of its future game console and provided details on the future controller that will accompany it.

This is the end of a suspense that was not quite one. Sony has announced that the replacement of the PlayStation 4 will be called PlayStation 5, a name that was not in doubt and is already widely used by all commentators. We also knew that the home console should arrive next year and Sony has specified that the commercialization of the PS5 will begin for the holiday season.

The Japanese firm has not given great technical details on the console itself but has however exposed the new features that will bring the controller of the PlayStation 5. On the menu, the transition to a return of haptic effect to replace the current vibration system to obtain a palette of more varied sensations on which game developers can play. The other innovation is the adaptive triggers (L2 / R2) whose resistance can be programmed to provide different sensations depending on the actions. 

Regarding the PS5, we know that it will keep physical media with 100 GB disks and a 4k Blu-ray player. A Wired article , to which Sony has provided exclusive information, tells us that the console will be able to handle ray-tracing, a technology for rendering light effects, thanks to an AMD graphics processor. The last remaining unknown is the price of the PlayStation 5 with which Sony will attack the replacement of the Xbox One at Microsoft. (Eureka Press)
