To choose the  right name for a dog , eliminate everything that is too long. The ideal is a name of two syllables. It must be short and easily pronounceable so that your puppy memorizes it as quickly as possible. Two syllables with clear and precise sounds so that the animal easily recognizes them. You can simply double a syllable, as in “Lulu” or “Toutou”. Avoid names that look too much like a common name or an order. We all know “Lassie, the faithful dog”, but this name is very close to the “sitting” order and your dog will have trouble finding his way.

To help you or if your dog is a purebred dog registered on the LOF or Book of French origins, a letter corresponds to each year of birth. In 2015, purebred dogs must all have a name beginning with the letter L. In 2014, it was the letter J and it will be the letter M in 2016. Some letters have not appeared in the list since 1973. It is K, Q, W, X, Y, Z, the choice was too small. If your dog’s breed is not registered on the LOF, nothing prevents you from choosing a name starting with the official letter. This allows you to limit the possibilities a little. For this year 2015, we start with L, then a sound vowel like an A, an O or an I that is followed by a consonant that “slams” like an R.
