USA: Detecting tigers at the zoo is also infected with Covid-19

A tiger in New York Zoo, USA was positive for the new corona virus, becoming the first case in the world to recognize a tiger infected with Covid-19.

Reuters on April 5 quoted a spokesman for Bronx, New York City, said Nadia, a four-year-old female tiger like Malaysia, was positive for the SARS-CoV-2 virus.
This is the first case of Covid-19 in the US involving animals and the first case in the world where a tiger was infected with a new strain of corona virus, according to Reuters.
According to the American Wildlife Conservation Association (WCS), the zoo management agency, Nadia tigers are expected to recover from Covid-19.
"We test the tiger as a precaution and make sure any knowledge we have about Covid-19 will contribute to the world's understanding of this virus," said the WCS.
“It is not clear how Covid-19 will develop in tigers because different species may react differently to the pathogen, but we will carefully monitor the animal and expect it to fully recover. ”, The WCS notice wrote.
According to AFP , apart from Nadia, Nadia's sister - Azul, two tigers like Amur and three lions like Africa also have symptoms of a dry cough.
“Even though they show signs of not eating well, the Bronx Zoo's tigers are doing fine when they receive veterinary care. They remain active and interact with zoo staff, ”the announcement said.
All 4 zoos and 1 aquarium in New York were closed from March 16 before the complicated situation of the disease in this city.
Zoo officials emphasized that "there is no evidence that animals play a role in transmitting the human-borne Covid-19 virus and there is no evidence that animals transmit new corona viruses to humans in the US, including both dogs and cats ”.
Earlier, Chinese disease control officials identified the wildlife sold at a seafood market in Wuhan as the source of the global Covid-19 outbreak.
In late March, Belgium recorded a case of Covid-19 involving cats. Earlier, Hong Kong (China) also detected two cases positive for SARS-Cov-2 virus related to dogs. The above animals are contagious from the person they live with.
