Hachiko was an Akita dog born on November 10, 1923, in Odate City, Akita Prefecture, Japan. In 1924 Hachiko was adopted by a professor of agriculture at Tokyo University. And from here a touching story between dog Hachiko and his owner touched the whole of Japan.
After being brought up by Professor Ueno, Hachiko became a close friend with the boss. Every morning, Hachiko accompanied his master to the Shibuya station where the boss went to work and waited for him there until he returned home at the end of the day. The days of its blessing like that happened within a year. But on a fateful day in May 1925, when Professor Ueno suffered a sudden infarction at work, he died. In the following days, poor dog Hachiko still came to the station to wait for his boss to return. Every day after that, he has been at the station for almost 10 years.
In 1932 one of Ueno's students, Hirokichi Saito, saw Hachiko at the station and heard a touching story about his life. in the same year, he published an article in a major newspaper Asahi Shimbun - a famous daily newspaper in Tokyo with a very large audience - that made Hachiko a national phenomenon. People started to know about Hachiko's loyalty to his boss, who gave food to Hachiko at the train station. The teachers took Hachiko as an example of loyalty for the younger generation to follow, the famous artists began to sculpt the statue. Finally, the loyalty of Hachiko dog became a national symbol of loyalty.
